Andersen® 400 Series Tilt-Wash Window with Optional Performance Grade (PG) 50 Upgrade

Andersen Corporation is pleased to introduce a redesigned PG50 upgrade option for 400 Series tilt-wash units. This new design eliminates the need for field applied installation clips as well as all visible interior structural support brackets and the exterior outer frame member brackets. New upper sash exterior pivot pins and the existing exterior sill brackets will still be used but would be partially hidden from view if using an insect screen. Double sash locks will continue to be used.

Tilt-wash units with PG upgrade already installed in the field cannot be retro-fitted to eliminate the interior structural brackets due to unit modifications. These new enhancements do not apply to the monumental 72 and 76 heights or tilt-wash units with impact resistant glass.  Contact Heartland Glass for more details and information.

Andersen Named ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence

Andersen Corporation, including its subsidiaries, has been named a 2018 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award winner, the highest honor given by ENERGY STAR for continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements. Andersen’s accomplishments will be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 2018.

Andersen has been an ENERGY STAR® partner since the Windows program began in 1998 and was the first window manufacturer awarded the ENERGY STAR National Window Partner of the Year in 1999. The company’s leadership in energy efficiency is exemplified through products that have helped set industry standards for minimizing environmental impacts while maximizing energy efficiency, performance and durability for customers. This is Andersen’s fourth Sustained Excellence Award and the ninth time the company has been recognized by the ENERGY STAR program.

“Andersen is proud to be recognized for our leadership in energy efficiency and commitment to the ENERGY STAR program,” said Jay Lund, Andersen chairman and CEO. “Our longstanding commitment to the ENERGY STAR program aligns with core aspects of our company’s mission to lead our industry by creating different and better products and to build brands people value and trust.”

Andersen’s ENERGY STAR program is centered on advancing energy-efficient products within its four major brands, and educating all stakeholders about the benefits of ENERGY STAR certified products and programs. In 2017, Andersen expanded its portfolio of ENERGY STAR certified models by adding seven models, including its new MultiGlide™ door. Andersen now has 328 product models certified in at least one climate zone.

“With ENERGY STAR certified products across the breadth of our portfolio of products, Andersen offers customers the benefits of energy-efficient windows and doors at all price points,” added Eliza Clark, director of sustainability and environmental for Andersen Corporation. “The ENERGY STAR mark is the gold standard for energy efficiency that our customers know and trust. We are proud to align with the EPA to leverage that brand awareness to help drive environmental impact reduction on a national scale.”

In addition to developing and promoting energy efficient products, Andersen is committed to reducing energy use across its operations. The company has an enterprise goal to reduce its energy use by 20 percent by 2020, using 2013 as a baseline.

“The 2018 ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year have demonstrated real leadership, showing how American families and businesses can save energy, save money, and reduce air emissions,” said Bill Wehrum, EPA Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation.

In 2016 alone, ENERGY STAR certified products, homes, buildings, and plants helped Americans save over $30 billion in energy costs and approximately 400 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and while achieving broad emissions reductions.

Heartland Glass Provides Glass Used for Bible Vault

The Saint John’s Bible is all handwritten, the project was finished in 2011 and will now be in its permanent home at St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN. It features all 73 books of the Old and New Testament, including the deuterocanonical books or the apocrypha books. Tim Ternes, Director of the Saint John’s Bible for the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library at St. John’s University, says it’s not just about reading the bible though, it’s about seeing it come to life.

After over two decades of planning and work, the Saint John’s Bible is now on display at St. John’s University.

Those involved with the project celebrated the opening of the Saint John’s Bible Gallery with a ribbon-cutting Thursday, October 5th, 2017 and the gallery opened to the public on Friday.

Ternes designed the exhibition vault, which is a secured space that is climate controlled at 68 degrees with 45 percent humidity and dim lighting meant to preserve the pages. The glass for this special customized vault was provided by Heartland Glass, Waite Park, MN.  The 28 pages on display are presented in cases made of non-reflective glass; although unbound, the pages are wrapped around a mount to appear as they would in a book.

What: The Saint John’s Bible Gallery.

Where: Lower level of the Alcuin Library, St. John’s University. –

Hours: 10-a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Heartland Glass takes part in the SJU Alcuin Library Renovation

In all, the Roman Catholic university had three main goals with the $25 million project that added 22,000 square feet, according to President Michael Hemesath.

First, he said St. John’s wants students to study and mingle with others in Alcuin, much like the situation in the late 1970s and early ’80s, when Hemesath attended the school. It also wants to expose students to emerging technologies, along with professionals who can help enable their use. And finally, the university wants the library’s physical spaces to reflect and accommodate changing teaching and learning styles that encourage more collaboration than ever.

Heartland Glass is proud to have been a part of this project by providing the glass for the newly renovated library.
